Breathe Move Yoga (BMY) is located in Sydney and offers a range of classes and workshops.
We create a safe, inclusive, and non-judgemental space for people to experience traditional Yoga and discover a deeper understanding of who they are.
BMY was created by Julian Boswell after becoming a certified Teacher under the mentorship of Mick Barnes and the community at The Yoga Factory in Sydney. Julian came to Yoga in 2012 and found a love for the balanced physical practice that provided a break from an active mind. He is passionate about all facets of Yoga and making the practices from a traditional 8 Limbed path accessible to everyone.
The 8 Limbed path was described in the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali and these teachings were continued through Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. Of these 8 Limbs, breathing practices are one Limb, moving the body in physical postures are another. These limbs also include a set of ethics, practices for focusing the mind and meditation.
In BMY classes you will experience the linking of breath and movement as well as opportunities for stillness in each pose. Students will become familiar with a practice that’s adapted to their needs, moving the body in a balanced way. This kind of approach facilitates attention to breath and fosters a mental state that is calm and creates a kind of moving meditation.
While the physical body benefits from a practice in strength and flexibility, the breathing and concentration practices train the nervous system and its natural ability to return to a restful state. By moving our body and focusing on our breathing we are training our ability to concentrate and to calm down. By doing a regular practice on the mat, the skills and stamina gained will flow into the rest of life.
I was born and raised in Sydney on Gadigal and Guringai country. I am the son of Paul and Judith, I am brother to James and David, I am husband to Marlesha, and I am father to Oliver.
After completing a Bachelor of Social Science (Philosophy & Politics), I worked in Indigenous Affairs and the community sector for a number of years. I've also worked as a musician and in the education sector helping young children with additional needs.
I came to Yoga in 2012 and while I enjoyed the physicality of the practice, what kept me coming back was the mental space it afforded me. We often don't realise how active our mind is until we experience some stillness. By continually returning to the mat, my practice has become a process of self study and connection.
In 2019, under the mentorship and training of Mick Barnes and many of the wonderful yoga teachers at the Yoga Factory, I began teaching. I am passionate about making traditional 8 Limbed Yoga available to everyone.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land where we live, learn and work.
